Study Visa

Canada is one of the best countries in the world and is known for its high standard of education and living. It is the most preferred destination for international students to shape their future while pursuing their studies. Canada welcomes more than 100,000 students every year to help them explore amazing career opportunities.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) (the department of the government of Canada) made some changes to the International Student Program. As per the new rules, the students can work up to 20 hours a week without the need for a work permit. With the help of this rule, the students get the opportunity to learn more about Canada and its culture. This rule also allows students to work on-campus or off-campus.

Applicants need to meet the following requirements to obtain a student visa.
  • An applicant needs to be successfully accepted at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada
  • Current status in Canada
  • An applicant must have proof of financial support for his/her education

Even if you are in Canada as a visitor and want to apply for a study permit to attend a designated learning institution, then as of June 1, 2014, you can do so from within Canada. These include:

  • minor children studying at the primary or secondary level;
  • exchange or visiting students; and
  • Students who have completed a short-term course or program of study that is a condition for acceptance at a designated institution.

 Students receive a Graduate Work Permit for a minimum of one to a maximum of three years after graduating successfully from the program of study. For information on becoming a permanent Canadian resident, please visit the “Immigrate” section of the website.
